Through its editorial line, the Canal+ Group encourages diversity of cinematic expression and openness to the world. The channel’s subscribers appreciate the diversity of the films aired and are satisfied with the film offering. The Canal+ Cinéma channel broardcasts films by directors from around the world and offers its subscribers programs and regular special events devoted to specific countries or film genres.

  • January 2009: First-release distribution of Into the Wild and production of an exclusive documentary by Didier Allouch on the American independent cinema on the occasion of the Sundance Festival.
  • February 2009: “Carte blanche à Cédric Klapisch,” with the first-release distribution of Paris and production of an exclusive documentary about the director, a true portrait of his work: Les paris de Klapisch by Stéphane Charbit, produced by Cinétévé.
  • March 2009: Panorama of the Spanish fantasy cinema in the context of the NOUVEAU GENRE screenings, with the airing of L’orphelinat and a selection of unreleased films (Cronocrimenes, Les disparus, Kilometre 31) and the production of an exclusive documentary, Viva la Muerte, by Yves Montmayeur – a full-scale overview of the Spanish genre cinema.
  • April 2009: Discovery of world cinema in the context of the VU DU CERCLE screening with La zona (Mexico) by Rodrigo Plá, winner of the Lion of the Future at the 2007 Venice Festival and the Prize of the International Critics at the Toronto Festival, and Desengagement (Israel) by Amos Gitai, with Juliette Binoche.
  • May 2009: Special Slavic New Wave week with Le Banissement (Russia) by Andreï Zviaguintsev (Best Actor at Cannes 2007), a selection of films including the latest unreleased work by Nikita Mikhalkov, 12 – a remake of Twelve Angry Men, released in cinemas in February 2010 –, and production of an exclusive documentary, Cinéma russe : une nouvelle vague slave, by Svetlana Klinyshkova, produced by Program33 – a veritable portrait of contemporary Russian film.
  • June 2009: Screening of La forêt de mogari (Japan) by Naomi Kawase to mark the awarding of the Prix de la Carosse D’Or to the filmmaker at the opening evening of the Directors’ Fortnight at Cannes this year (ceremony partnered by CANAL+CINEMA).
  • July-August 2009: Special Quentin Tarantino weekend on the occasion of the release of Inglourious basterds on August 19 (CANAL+CINEMA is a partner in the film’s theater release) with exclusive distribution of the director’s “Cinema Lesson,” filmed at Cannes in 2007, and a selection of his films including Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill 1 & 2.
  • October 2009: First-release distribution of the film Entre les murs, dealing with youth at school, Golden Palm at Cannes in 2008.
  • December 2009: Special Marrakech Festival evening with screening of Mascarades (Algeria) by Lyes Salem and production of an exclusive documentary on the most recent Marrakech Festival
