Since 2005 the Canal + group has offered its customers legal downloads of video via the Internet. The program downloads are offered by CANALPLAY, which, via this path, contributes to supporting and developing the creation of audiovisual programs while ensuring the protection of the rights to files being downloaded for their holders.

CANALPLAY offers a broad, attractive range of movies available on many networks and media to fit a wide range of profiles and modes of TV consumption. With more than 6,000 items of content accessible at any time, including 3,000 films – some of them in HD –, CANALPLAY can lay claim to having the finest cinema offering on the market. In a little over three years, the legal video downloading service has logged more than 10 million purchases. In addition to its offering of new movies (close to 90% of the films in the Box Office Top 100 for 2008 are or will be available via the service) and back-catalogue films classified by genre – but also exclusive series, manga, and SVOD offerings for youth, for a total of over 1,200 episodes –, what sets CANALPLAY apart is that it is also provides exemplary editorial content (bonuses, exclusive interviews, comments from stars, movie previews, etc.), ergonomics, and navigation ease.
Already available on PC and TV (cable, ADSL and soon satellite), CANALPLAY is also the only platform in France that is mobile-accessible on the Sony PSP. The group’s objective in 2009 is to continue to make the platform available on all connected media, always with simplicity and transparency for the consumer.
