Energy from renewable sources

A range of initiatives have been put in place by the business units regarding renewable energy sources.

Activision Blizzard and Universal Music Group

Part of the electricity purchased by several Universal Music Group sites (from two sites in 2005 to six in 2009) and Activision Blizzard sites (from four sites in 2005 to nine in 2009) located in California (United States) comes from solar, wind, and geothermal energy sources.

SFR

In April 2007 SFR inaugurated the first relay antenna powered by solar energy at Fitou in France’s Aude department. In 2010, the SFR network has been using several types of renewable energy sources. A relay-antenna site in the Mediterranean and four sites on the Réunion island are 100% photovoltaic. In Corsica a relay antenna is powered by a fuel cell. Another relay antenna, in the Tarn-et-Garonne, uses the Earth-Air Heat Exchanger technique to naturally regulate the room temperature of the facility. At Veuilly-la-Poterie, one site uses solar energy and LPG. Feasibility studies are planned in 2010 on using wind energy and installing photovoltaic panels on the roofs of strategic sites.

Maroc Telecom

For several years, Maroc Telecom has made use of renewable energy sources to supply base stations located in unelectrified rural areas. As of late 2009, there were nearly 200 antennas powered by solar energy, encouraging the inclusion of populations and villages located in remote regions. Maroc Telecom invests massively in this clean technology in the context of the national universal service program PACTE, for which it has close to 80% of responsibility.
