Musical diversity supported by the business units

In parallel with Universal Music Group, the group’s other business units deploy remarkably innovative and effective initiatives in favour of musical diversity.

  • Activision Blizzard
For Activision Blizzard, this diversity is of course reflected in the variety and number of selections available in the tracklists of the musical video game Guitar Hero: World Tour. From expansion games dedicated to Metallica and Aerosmith to the latest Guitar Hero: World Tour, and including the impressive tracklists of the three expansion games since the first Guitar Hero on Tour, the diversity of the artists and genres available is one of the game’s great strengths.
  • SFR and SFR Jeunes Talents
Since September 2006, SFR has supported artistic creation via the SFR Jeunes Talents program, which supports young artists in many artistic fields, and music in particular. SFR Jeunes Talents Music has been met with great success and contributes to the diversity of the French musical scene by revealing the artists of tomorrow. The second SFR Jeunes Talents compilation, including some dozen award winners, will soon be on sale. Meanwhile three groups or artists have already become professionals:
    • Brooklyn (programmed at the Eurockéennes in Belfort) has signed with Discograph and brought out their first album in October 2008,
    • Archimède (performed at the Bars en Trans in Rennes) has signed with Sony Music and their first album appeared in April 2009,
    • Slimy (also on the program at the Rennes Bars en Trans) has signed with Warne,r and their first album was also released in April 2009.
  • Maroc Telecom
Maroc Telecom organised Jawla, the new version of its Musical Caravan, during the Summer of 2008. The tour, which covers close to ten cities in the Kingdom on a north-to-south path, contributes to enlivening Morocco’s artistic scene by offering free performances by talented Moroccan and international artists. This year Jawla presented unusual concerts stressing a "Genre Fusion" theme – a mosaic of stars and styles that created some unexpected combinations. From Larache to Laayoune, in Marrakech, Safi, El Jadida, Settat, Fez, Meknès and Taza, each stage of Jawla is a real artistic show, blending music, song and humour. Stars like Bilal, Fnaïr, Abdou Cherif, Najat Aatabou, Ostina Tono, Naskoum Band, and more, as well as Raï singers and young groups from the new artistic wave, R ’n’ B, Rap, Break Dance, and Hip Hop played in spectacular sound-and-light settings.
  • Canal+ Group
Putting the spotlight on authentic, creative, sincere musicians and revealing their unique vision and originality… that is Canal+’s mission. Three separate programs showcase the broadest possible range of artists.
    • L’album de la semaine ("Album of the week") gives new talents unique exposure.
    • Concerts privés ("Private Concerts") are opportunities for groups that are experienced but are rarely seen on television to present exceptional, intimate, personal concerts.
    • Finally, La musicale, hosted by Emma de Caunes, offers 90 minutes of all-live performances and interviews where recognised and new artists alike, from all backgrounds, can meet and play together in total freedom. Since December 2004, the La musicale set has become a vital space of free expression for artists, regardless of their sound universe. Some ninety artists have performed on Emma de Caunes’s huge set with its five stages – from Robbie Williams to Amy Winehouse and including Alain Bashung, Carla Bruni and Manu Chao. At each shooting, the Canal+ teams are at the service of the performers and their music, be they veteran performers, the latest finds, or the show’s own discoveries and favourites. La musicale did its first tour in the spring of 2008 in this same festival-like spirit.
