Renewable energy sources

A range of initiatives has been implemented by the business units in the area of renewable energy sources:

  • Since 2004, two UMG sites and four Activision Blizzard sites in California (USA) have purchased electricity from solar and wind sources.
  • Since 2007, Maroc Telecom has deployed antennas powered by solar energy to enable transmission of GSM communications in non-electrified areas. 150 such "Sun Sites" have been deployed. Thus, Maroc Telecom continues its policy of integrating relay antennas into the environment while reducing consumption of fossil-sourced energy and contributing to ending the isolation of villages and dwellings located in remote regions.
  • In April 2007 SFR inaugurated the first relay antenna powered by solar energy at Fitou in the Aude département. In 2008 SFR inaugurated a relay antenna powered by a fuel cell for the first time in its mobile-telephony network, in Corsica. Another relay antenna, in the Tarn-et-Garonne département, uses the Earth-Air Heat Exchanger technique to naturally regulate the ambient temperature of the facility.
