In its role as a principal sponsor of the Cinémathèque Française, Vivendi is teaming up with Canal+ to inaugurate the exceptional Martin Scorsese exhibition opening at the Cinémathèque since October 14.

Scorsese’s ascension from his humble Little Italy beginnings to one of the masters of cinema was direct and impressive. Over his fifty-year career, acclaimed by critics and the public alike, Martin Scorsese has breathed new life into cinematographic narration with a very personal vision of the human soul.

Thanks to his unparalleled directing skills, Scorsese was able to help foster the emergence of talents such as Harvey Keitel, Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Willem Dafoe, who have become icons of his film, much like Daniel Day-Lewis and Leonardo DiCaprio more recently.

In 1990, in a generous move in line with his love of cinema, Scorsese created The Film Foundation, an organization dedicated to safeguarding world cinema.

Like Vivendi, Canal+ shares this state of mind by regularly broadcasting the masterpieces of the world’s cultural heritage and by hiring and assisting many French and international talents.

Offering photographs, storyboards, costumes, posters and cult objects, the Martin Scorsese exhibition is based mainly on his own private New York collection, as well as the Robert De Niro and Paul Schrader collections. Visitors can learn about Scorsese’s sources of inspiration and working methods, and how his artistic approach to narrative has shaped modern American cinema.

At the gala dinner held by the Cinémathèque Française on October 13, renowned jazz singer and Universal Music (Verve Records) artist Diana Krall paid homage to Scorsese’s work and talent by performing a few of his latest songs.

Canal+ subscribers were part of the celebration by getting the exclusive opportunity to watch The Wolf of Wall Street, one of the latest masterpieces directed by Martin Scorsese, on the eve of the exhibition’s opening.
